Over the past couple of weeks, the club has been well represented at two important occasions: the memorial service for Jeremy Ball and the funeral of Richard Summerfield.
Jeremy, who served as Master in Charge of Fives at Bradfield College, was a long-time player with us until his health declined— his heart issue, in fact, first appeared whilst playing on the Winchester courts. Although he passed away last year, a wonderful memorial service and fives match were held on 15th June at Bradfield College, attended by 300 people (how many actually watched the exhibition of fives is still being verified….). You can read more about Jeremy further down this news feed.
Richard passed away in May, and his funeral was held on 23rd June at an overflowing Sparsholt Church on a beautiful summer’s day. A talented sportsman and a warm, funny, gentle and intelligent man, Richard played regularly with us in Winchester until his health declined about ten years ago. His love of fives was fondly remembered during the service.
